Gainesville Junior Golf Tour Joins Gator Junior Golf

May 2, 2022 - Gainesville Junior Golf Tour Joins Gator Junior Golf

NEW For Summer 2022: Gator Junior Golf will be running the Gainesville Junior Golf Tour starting this summer. Tournaments will be open for beginner players for 9 holes and advanced players for 18 holes. We're excited to continue making the game of golf financially accessible to our families by offering the lowest priced events in our region- we thank our donors for making this possible. As always, we will offer financial assistance to those in need and our prices will be the lowest in the region. Our goal is to encourage more participation in the game of golf. As we begin our journey with the tour, we plan to introduce more beginner friendly divisions for kids to compete in without the pressure that competition can have. We will be operating on a similar schedule that the Gainesville Junior Golf Tour has historically run as well as the recent addition of Turkey Creek Golf Course as an 8th event this summer.

The Gainesville Junior Golf Tour was started over 20 years ago by local golf professionals from each golf course in Gainesville. About 15 years ago, Frank Anderson took over the tour. Under his leadership, they were able to reach thousands of juniors, including several that are on professional golf tours. Each year, the tour gave out college scholarships, scholarships to participate in FSGA events and scholarships for GJGT events. Frank's commitment to the youth in the community created many memories and provided opportunities where fellow junior golfers could meet each other and develop lifelong friendships.

Frank has also been a long time volunteer and supporter of Gator Junior Golf. In fact, he taught on many Saturday afternoons at Gainesville Country Club. Today, Frank is retiring from the Gainesville Junior Golf Tour and he is passing it to us at the Gator Junior Golf Association. We're excited that having the Gator Junior Golf name attached to the tour will give us a special ability to encourage more beginners to participate in entry level competition through our new 9 hole format. We find the tour fits in perfectly with our mission in developing youth and making the game of golf financially accessible to all.

As we begin this new phase of leadership under Gator Junior Golf, we hope to offer more scholarships and opportunities for individuals that cannot afford tournaments. If you're interested in becoming a sponsor for the tour, send us an email at info@gjgt.org.
