Statistics Tutorial:
Statistics are a helpful way of tracking your performance on-course so you can better understand why you scored what you did. You are required to submit your Statistics along with your scorecards each week. We will check to make sure it was completed and then return it to you before you leave for the day.
In the Putts box, write the number of putts you made on a hole. Your goal is to 2-putt, so any 3-putts will drive your score up. If you see a lot of 3-putts, you should work on your lag putts and short putts and that will definitely improve your submitted scores
A Green-In-Regulation is the number of strokes it should take you to reach the green in order to par a hole. For a par 3, you should reach the green in 1 stroke, on a par 4, in 2 strokes, and on a par 5, in 3 strokes. For each par, if you achieve a GIR, you have two putts to make a par on the hole. For example, on a par 5, your first shot is a drive, your second shot is a fairway shot (likely a hybrid or wood), and your third shot is an approach shot to the green. This leaves your fourth and fifth shot to make a 2-putt. If you get a GIR, put a + (plus) in the GIR box for that hole. Put a - (minus) if you do not get a GIR. Leave it blank if you get an up-and-down.
Sometimes you don’t make a GIR, but instead your GIR shot ends up just outside the green. For example, your 2nd shot on a par 4 might land 10 yards from the green. Though this isn’t a GIR, you can still up-and-down to make a par. Remember, an up-and-down means you have one short game shot (chip, pitch, sand, flop) and a short putt. This is still 2 shots and will still get you a par on the hole. If you up-and-down (U&D), put a + (plus) in the Up-and-down box on your scorecard. Leave this box blank if you get a GIR, or put a - (minus) if you miss the U&D.
Fairways Hit, or Fairway-In-Regulation, means you hit the fairway on your first shot, for a par 4 or 5. If you hit the fairway in your first shot on a par 4 or 5, put a + (plus) in that box. Leave the box empty for par 3s. Put a - (minus) if you miss the fairway.
Put your total fairways hit, GIRs, U&Ds, putts, and score in the “Out” row. Your goal is to get as many fairways hit, GIRs, and U&Ds possible and as few putts as possible. And of course, you want to get the lowest score possible.
