The D-Plane

The D-Plane is the final concept we discuss in Gator Junior Golf, and one of the most challenging.

The D-Plane involves the following factors, each of which we’ve discussed in Intermediate, Playing, and Advanced:

  1. Clubface (intermediate)

  2. Swing path (intermediate)

  3. Dynamic loft (playing)

  4. Angle of attack (intermediate)

  5. Lift (advanced)

The D-Plane is a triangle formed by joining two lines:

Line 1: directional line the club is moving at the time of maximum compression. This is the line formed by your angle of attack and swing path

Line 2: directional line perpendicular to the clubface. This is the line formed by your dynamic loft and clubface at impact.

The initial starting direction of the ball is on a line within the D-plane slightly below the dynamic loft/clubface line, and lift causes the ball to move “up-plane” towards the this line.
