Parent-Child Scramble
Parents need fun too, right?
Sure, our programs and classes at the Gator Junior Golf Association are designed specifically for those who haven’t yet left the house to pay their own bills, but it’s always enjoyable when parents are involved in what we do.
Besides, golf is one of the few sports that can be played across generations and enjoyed for a lifetime. It brings the potential for a family dynamic that always turns out to be memorable experiences for all.
It’s why we hosted our first ever parent-child scramble this past month at Gainesville Country Club. The nine-hole, two-person scramble proved to be a major success, with 12 groups vying for the inaugural victory.
In the end, it was the duo of Chris and Grayson Sonntag who ultimately emerged triumphant, but they certainly weren’t the afternoon’s only winners. Carson Kamp was crowned the long-drive champion of the day, Brodie Smith won our nine-hole putting contest and parent Kevin Brown earned the event’s closest-to-the-pin honors. Nice shot, dad!
Of course, no afternoon on the golf course is complete without some post-round pizza. After every group finished, they were greeted with Gator Dominos served in the clubhouse banquet hall.
None of this would’ve happened without the hard work of our team -- specifically Max Meier and Bobby Estrada -- who worked diligently to put all the fun together, and Gainesville Country Club, who has greatly supported all of our efforts and initiatives.
We can’t wait for our next scramble!
