Question 8: SOLUTION

In a "Y" swing we want straight arms, we do not want ___?

  1. Bent elbows aka Chicken Wings
    • CORRECT
  2. "Spaghetti Wrists"
    • CORRECT
  3. Long backswing
  4. Good balance

SOLUTION: The 2 bad things we can do in making our "Y" swing is 1) chicken wings, and 2) spaghetti wrists.

Chicken wing question process: A good way to illustrate why chicken wing bent arms is bad is to demonstrate with your arms bent while gripping the club, and ask where the clubhead is (it will be off of the ground if your elbows are bent). Then ask where the ball is (on the ground).  What happens if we try to swing like this? We'll miss it!  Then demonstrate with your straight arms and ask where the clubhead is (on the ground).  Ask where the ball is (on the ground).  What happens if we try to swing like this? We'll hit it!!

Spaghetti wrists question process:  The easiest way to show them this is to relate that the length of our swing is controlled by our "Y".  If we break our wrists and do spaghetti wrists, then controlling distance will be very very difficult.
