Week Seven: Full Swing, Part 2

Students will be able to:

  • distinguish the different types of clubs

  • understand the downswing and impact in full swing

  • practice using irons and hybrids

  • define responsibility

Full Swing - Downswing: Notes

  • Last week, we learned about the backswing. Now, we will learn how the club travels from the parallel position to impact position, or where you actually make contact with the ball.

  • From parallel position, the FIRST movement is your lower body (hips, knees, feet, waist) and shoulders which will push or turn outward. The SECOND movement is your hands, wrists, and arms, which will pull downward toward the ball. Note that the grip is the first part of the club that drops towards the ball.

  • Remember the 4P’s of the backswing and downswing: pivot, parallel, push, pull. Note that the “push” isn’t necessarily and push as much as a push and turn. You are turning your belt buckle towards the ball in the downswing.
