What's New in Spring 2019
Spring 2019 classes begin February 4th, and we hope you will join us for another exciting season of golf. We are going through several changes this season, and are excited to announce them below!
We are offering a fourth level in our program, Playing, for students who have completed Intermediate or have tournament experience. In this level, we teach students advanced skills and how to play competitively on the golf course, by coaching them through decisions on the course. Students will participate in a ten-week long competition, and at the end of the season, prizes and awards will be given out. Additionally, the Playing level will culminate a survey of the USGA Rules of Golf, begun in Intermediate.
Each of our spring classes will include new drills and a lesson series that introduces and develops the skills of golf. Students will understand the fundamentals of the swing- Grip, Aim, Stance, and Posture, while also learning the building blocks of the game- putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing. Additionally, during Intermediate and Playing, students will understand the USGA rules of golf and golf etiquette, and will take quizzes and interactively apply rules on the golf course. In these levels, bunker and flop shots will be introduced, along with uneven lies, swing path, weight shift, and other more advanced concepts. Every student registered in any of our four classes will receive free entrance in monthly Play Days. In Play Days, students get to play golf on the course with one of our instructors. Dates will be announced on the first day of class.
John Reger, our Executive Director, will be taking an active role in each of our classes, and will be leading our tournament in February, with more details coming soon! Reger has over 30 years of experience in the golf industry and has a passion for working with youth. Max Meier and Virginia Moore, our new Directors of Operations, are working on preparing an exciting new curriculum so we can have our best season yet! Max was a Lead Instructor this Fall, teaching all Saturday classes. He will continue teaching Saturday classes, along with leading the new Playing Program. Sean Warner, founder of the GJGA, will continue in his role as President of the Board of Directors, overseeing activities of the organization. Bob Geambazi, one of our assistant coaches for the Monday Beginner class in Fall, will be promoted to Lead Instructor of this course. John Stevens, our Chairman of the Board of Directors, will continue leading the Sunday classes at West End Golf Course.
The Gator Junior Golf Association is going through many changes this coming Spring season. We are confident that the program will continue to thrive. While we are extremely grateful for our staff, the program would not be where it is today without the help of Gator Junior Golf students, parents, volunteers, friends, and family. We thank you for all of your support in the past and we look forward to the future!
