Giving Tuesday 2020 - Letter from our Founder

I want to thank you for your continued support of our youth development program. This Giving Tuesday, we ask you to consider our program as we strive to grow the game of golf. Thanks to the hard work of our countless volunteers and coaches, we have reached over 150 children this season post-COVID-19. Before the pandemic, we reached nearly 200 kids in a single season. As we work through new challenges, we're excited to continue providing opportunity to our community's youth, regardless of a family's ability to pay.
As many of you know, our program is about more than teaching our kids how to play golf. We exist to promote team-building through our in-class games, establishing mentorship via our Play Days, and building character with our life skills curriculum--through the game of golf.
As the founder of this program, we identified a challenge in serving the at-risk community: access to transportation to the golf course and overcoming the barriers to entry for introducing golf to families unfamiliar with the game. We achieved this three years ago with our Girls Place and Reichert House programs at Ironwood Golf Course. Many of these children have encountered hardship that many of us have not experienced. Our golf program exists to provide opportunity to these kids, despite the hand that life has dealt them.
This Giving Tuesday, we ask you to think about the opportunity we provide to these kids at Ironwood, free of charge—the same opportunity we provide for the 150 kids in our classes at Gainesville Country Club and Turkey Creek Golf Club.
